When CPAP is not working for you
CPAP is the standard treatment for obstructive sleep apnea, but many people find the mask and hoses hard to sleep with. When CPAP is not well tolerated, your physician may recommend giving oral appliance therapy a try. When it helps, it certainly beats traveling with, or sleeping connected to, hoses.
How the appliance works
The appliance is a custom-made mouthpiece you wear at night. It gently holds your lower jaw forward to help keep your airway open while you sleep.
Why a dentist manages it
Sleep appliance therapy is best managed by a dentist, because wearing an appliance every night can slowly move teeth or change your bite. Dr. Bal checks the fit and your teeth at follow-up visits and adjusts the appliance as needed.
Getting started
